Money matter.
Since my heart attack incident, followed by Baya Scoliosis and Aris daughters scoliosis, Ana's son Fauzi back bone damage during motorbike accident and now Kak Maz daughter's scoliosis, I'm easily distraught at the mention of back bone injuries. This is because of the cost of treatment is really high for any layman. While at the hospital I had come across a lot of insurance sales person who are offering a potpourri of coverage for all sort of needs. For Baya case we consider our self very lucky to have a medical coverage that got no limit on the actual expenditure, there is a maximum limit on the room cost but not on medication or operation cost. Aris's daughter had the operation perform at government hospital in Seremban because his company medical coverage only cover about 70 percent of the cost, the balance must be shouldered by him, luckily Aris wife is a government servant so she had utilized her government Guarantee Letter to get medical coverage for their daughter's operation. In Fauzi or Along's case I had personally bargained with the surgeon and the vendor on how can we cut corners and bring the cost down to the level where it is more affordable to us and now Kak Maz's daughters are facing the same dilemma like the others. We had laid down three alternative ways to proceed. Even though she is a government servant but the medical coverage for her children is up to max age of 18 years old, her daughter is already 20 years old so there goes plan one, second plan is to apply for insurance coverage and claim the medical benefits a few months later, this looks more like cheating but I had explore the possibility as well and found out that for cases like this if the person claim the benefits more than one year later than it could be perform without deep enquiries, if within one or two months than there is very high probability that the insurance company won't pay the bills. There goes plan two, plan three is to negotiate with the surgeon, hospital and vendors that supply the necessary Titanium screws, plates and artificial bone for a reduction in cost. This venture end up in territories that Kak Maz are not that very happy with, she had put it up clearly only the best for her daughter, not such thing as lower quality material used or less some material here and there to cut cost but she do agree with the surgeon suggestion to cut cost by utilizing a cheaper room and recuperating at home instead of the hospital. This alone will cut the cost by about RM2K! Now she is in a hurry to apply for a bank loan that been offered to government servant at a very low interest rate, last offer date is 30th of this month.
After going through a few of this hassle it is become more clearer to me that we do actually need the 'medical card' or 'medical and hospitalization' coverage or some form or another that was offered by the insurance company, be them MAA, PRUDENTIAL, ING or any other company. I used to feel very comfortable with the coverage that I have for my family when I had joint this company where I'm working now, but if I decided to resign and joint any other company there is very high probability they might not have the kind of medical coverage we are enjoying now, so against there is something tying me up to the company. Friends, the cost of treatment and operation I'm talking about here varied fro RM11K to a total of RM80K.Unless you guys have enough fund to cover this kind of expenses, which I did not have, why not please consider and pay some attention to the insurance man, maybe there will be a time that we might need their help, we never know. On my side, I'm seriously considering their entire offer now.
